Saving Space in a Kid’s Room

 from Mommy Musings.com:

As a parent we need to encourage cleanliness and organization from the get go. Kids, in general, are messy; but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a clean and orderly house if you only have a small space. There are some simple solutions you can use to make the most of the floor space that you have available.
Here are a few space saving ideas for making the most of your kid’s room:
  • Get a set of twin over full bunk beds instead of a regular bed. Bunk beds are an awesome space saving solution in any room. They double the available sleeping space but take up no extra square feet. I suggest that you buy a set of adult bunk beds rather than a set sized for kids since they grow so quickly– this way you won’t have to buy a new set in just a few years. Buying bunk beds for a kid’s room also makes sleep overs easier because you have an extra bed all set for your kid’s friends.
  • Buy combination furniture when you can get it. If you can buy a bed frame that also has storage built into it then you are saving even more space that can be used for additional storage.
  • If you assign certain colors to certain drawers or cabinets you will encourage your kids to clean up and keep track of everything they have. You can also paint numbers on drawers and cabinets to encourage organization along with numerical learning. Some say, children learn faster when they are surrounded by numbers and letters.
  • Install shelves in the closets. Most kids don’t have much clothing that needs to be hung up on a closet pole, so closets accumulate clutter easily. If you fill them with shelving you will reduce this mess and encourage organization.
What tips do you have for saving space in your kid’s room?
