Library card holders can download up to three songs a week for free! The Library System now offers access to more than three million songs including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. The Freegal™ Music Service allows us the chance to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to more than 10,000 music labels from 65 different countries. Registered card holders can download a select number of Freegal Music tracks in the MP3 format at no cost. The Freegal Music Service offers free mobile apps for registered cardholders. Apps are available in the Apple® App Store and Google Play®.

Black History 2013

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS

Everyone is invited to join the Miami-Dade Public Library System as it celebrates Black History Month! Enjoy African drumming and dancing, learn about the words and world of poet Langston Hughes and hear musician Reggie Paul’s music which explores the many styles of African American song. Teens, ages 12-19, are invited to part in the 5th Annual Teen Photography contest which runs through February 9. The contest challenges teens to get behind the lens to capture some aspect of African American culture in Miami-Dade County. Categories include: Architecture; Art and Lifestyle. Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers.

IF ARE YOU 55+ THEN WE WANT YOU TO GET SOCIAL @ THE LIBRARY!

The Library’s New Lifetime Living through Art Series offers drawing, quilting, photography and more! 

The Miami‑Dade Public Library System is looking for adults 55 and older to get social and creative during its new Lifetime Living through Art for Older Adults series. Lifetime Living through Art is a series of workshops featuring drawing, quilting, photography, painting and jewelry making. The workshops are free and will be taught by local artists. Sponsored by the MetLife Foundation Creative Aging Libraries Project, the program is made possible by a grant from the MetLife Foundation in partnership with the Library System, Lifetime Arts Inc. and American Library Association's Public Programs Office. Interested adults must be able to commit to attending all of sessions and should contact the branch to register. At the end of each workshop, participants will showcase their creations during a culminating exhibition.

Creative Photography with Mikelle Moore
