What are you doing this weekend? It may be hard to decide which free or cheap events to attend.
The Miami-Dade Public Library is presenting its annual storytelling festival all day Saturday. There are free movies in Miami Beach and Coral Gables, the monthly Viernes Culturales celebration in Coral Gables plus outdoor jazz at MOCA and a New World Symphony Wallcast.

It’s the last week of National Poetry Month, which means lots of free events as part of the O, Miami poetry festival. Plus, it’s the last wek of Miami Golf Month, with special deals.

Wow! Talk about being honest about your feelings. Even after reading this article though I don't get it....I feel sad for her children and mostly I feel sad for her. Don't get me wrong I respect everyone's decision but some of her statements contradict themselves. If you don't want to be a parent then don't be simple! Parenting isn't for everyone there's nothing wrong with that. 

I speak honestly when I've had moments or even days where my children have driven me crazy and I've wanted to be alone on an island somewhere (don't we all) but it's just that a quick thought......

She says she fulfilled her job and did it well.  Honestly I think she failed! 

This one is a sure must read for all!

Miami Dade Public Library System - Library News!

It’s April, which can only mean one thing for the Miami-Dade Public Library System…it’s time for the 13th annual International Art of Storytelling! There’s an exciting line up of events and programs for people of all ages – be sure to check out the fun! Did you know that each year, the Library System partners with a library from another country in an effort to share and explore each other’s customs and cultures? We are proud to announce that the 2013 international exchange partner is the Bibliotecas de la Comunidad de Madrid in Madrid, Spain.

Tales Under the Stars banner

Grab a blanket and enjoy a captivating evening of stories from around the world! Sharing tall tales and folklore are renowned storytellers Mama Koku, Carrie Sue Ayvar and Lela Lombardo. In honor of this year’s exchange partner, there will be a Flamenco performance by Gyspy Cat on the beautiful grounds of the Deering Estate. Visit the Family Events page for more information.

ART EXHIBITION

As part of the 13th annual International Art of Storytelling program, the Miami-Dade Public Library System presents Once Upon a Time in Almeria by Mark Parascandola from April 26 - June 3, 2013 on the second floor exhibition space in the Main Library – 101 West Flagler Street.  The series of photographs captures the region of Almeria, Spain which was host to dozens of filmmakers who, during the 1960s and 1970s, constructed elaborate movie sets, invoking locations from the American Southwest to Bedouin Arabia. Jeffrey's fascination with photography is fed by the joy of simply "seeing". The play of light on a scene, the juxtaposition of things and textures are elements of his images. Predominately using available natural light, his "moments" can rarely be duplicated. Jeffrey's process involves the silver gelatin prints done on Multigrade Fiber Base paper which have been archivally processed in a "wet" darkroom. The tones of these prints are neutral. This medium is considered to be perhaps the most archival photographic process, giving the images a three dimensional feeling. Jeffrey is a practicing dentist and his interest in fine art photography has spanned forty years. His photos have been included in over fifty exhibitions in both public and private collections. Meet Jeffery at the Opening Reception, Wednesday, April 10th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. free to the public.

The Gold-Diggers is a theatrical group performing in support of charities, with donations totaling over one million dollars to date. Their primary charities include "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, South Florida Chapter", and the "Food for Life Network". In the spring of each year, the Gold-Diggers present their annual musical fundraising extravaganza right here at Pinecrest Gardens. This year's lavish and spectacular musical review is entitled Rock the Stages…and it promises to be a fun filled spectacle of music, dance, beautiful costumes and amazing staging. Join Pinecrest Gardens Horticulturist Craig Morell for a program on how to grow your own fresh garden herbs. Discover the potential to grow healthy organic herbs, even in small garden spaces and with minimum effort--any cook will love the ability to clip fresh herbs from your own garden outdoors or even on your window sill. Additionally, Craig will be discussing techniques to have a pest and weed free container garden. Coffee and snacks will be served. Wednesday, April 10th (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) and Thursday, April 26th (6:30 - 7:30 p.m.) in the Hibiscus Room Gardens Gallery. The class is open to the public and there is $ 5 admission fee (that includes refreshments) payable at the ticket booth.

Join us on Saturday, April 13th or April 27th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. for Krafts-4-Kids. This month our program is entitled “The Bats, the Birds the Bees and the Wind". Children will learn all about parts of a flower, what makes an orchid flower different from any other flower…how we evolve from flower to fruit and vegetables, edible flowers and pollination. In addition to class and crafts, we will hunt for some wonderful flowering finds in the Gardens. These are classes for children six through twelve years of age. Classes are limited to 20 children and the cost is $5 with all materials included in the price. Call for reservations in advance at 305-669-6990.

DISNEY’S WINNIE THE POOH KIDS is a delightful new show based on the beloved characters of A.A. Milne and the 2011 Disney animated feature film. DISNEY’S WINNIE THE POOH KIDS welcomes audiences to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit, and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship, and sharing snacks.
